Job Description

The City of Watertown has an immediate opening within the Planning Department. The Transportation Planner is a new competitive civil service position for the City. The Transportation Planner is responsible for coordinating and advancing a customer-focused, community-based mobility strategy that improves access to mobility services and travel options for seniors, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and low-income residents within the City and surrounding Small Urbanized Area. This is a highly customer-facing position requiring frequent direct interaction with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying mobility, communication, and access needs. The position serves as a planner, coordinator, and broker of mobility services, working collaboratively with public, private, and nonprofit partners to reduce barriers to mobility, optimize resources, and promote equitable, accessible, and sustainable mobility solutions. Mobility services may include, but are not limited to, public transit, paratransit, on-demand and microtransit services, volunteer driver programs, bike share, car share, and other emerging or innovative mobility options. The Transportation Planner supports Planning Office operations and manages sensitive and confidential client, partner, and program records in compliance with ADA, Title VI, and other applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
either: Bachelor's degree in urban planning, transportation planning, public administration, social services, or a related field; or Associate's degree in urban planning, transportation planning, public administration, social services, or a related field with 2 years' experience in mobility management, transportation planning, or human services coordination.
DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT
Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver's License.
