Community Organizer Austin Coming Together Chicago, Illinois, United States (Hybrid) Posted 21 days ago Job Duration Indefinite Salary $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 Min Education BA/BS/Undergraduate Required Travel 0-10% Salary - Type Yearly Salary Job Function Program Management AI Summary & Insights Description Position Description The Community Organizer will have five main responsibilities: a) ensure widespread community engagement in, and support for, the Austin Forward. Together. (AFT) quality-of-life plan; b) Develop leadership for the AFT quality-of-life plan and assist these leaders to mobilize organizational partners and residents to carry out our action planning process; c) build the ACT network's collective power to begin organizing for policy change; d) track progress of the AFT plan's mobilization and implementation in ACT's Salesforce system. In order to carry out this role effectively, the Community Organizer must deliver a clear and consistent message about the Austin Forward. Together. (AFT) Quality of Life Plan, maintain up-to-date knowledge of our partner organization's programs and services, be able to communicate and establish rapport with a diverse range of residents and stakeholders, and be able to leverage relationships and networks to increase involvement with Plan efforts throughout the Austin community.
Responsibilities:
Community Engagement & Leadership Development Build and maintain strong relationships with Austin community stakeholders, including AFT leadership, residents, organizational partners, and elected officials through regular one-on-one conversations and attending community meetings. Serve as a liaison between ACT and external partners to support special events, projects, and initiatives aligned with the Austin Forward Together plan. Action Planning Convene and mobilize AFT Community Leaders (Task Force Chairs & Strategy Leads) and community stakeholders to advance priorities in the AFT Highlighted Agenda. Coordinate with Strategy Leads and partners to prepare for action planning meetings aligned with parts of the AFT Highlighted Agenda. Support AFT Community Leaders in developing, executing, and updating action, project, and budget plans. Facilitate monthly meetings with AFT Community Leaders to support strategy implementation, basebuilding efforts, and meeting preparation and follow-up. Conduct research on the Austin community to identify local, state, and national trends that inform planning, policy, and investment decisions. AFT Plan Implementation Assist AFT community leaders in implementing Highlighted Agenda action plans through Facilitating partnerships Conducting action planning trainings coordination of meetings and communications to both internal and external stakeholders. Tracking Progress Record community engagements including events, one-on-one meetings, planning sessions, and community meetings—in ACT's Salesforce system. Track and manage the progress of AFT action planning processes in Salesforce Miscellaneous Participate in internal planning sessions and other professional development activities to inform work
Requirements Qualifications:
A clear track record of successful community organizing experience Must have 2-3 years experience in community organizing, community development, outreach, urban planning and policy, or other relevant field Bachelor's degree in sociology, political science, urban studies, public administration or related field A familiarity with the Austin community and the issues its residents face; experience working in Westside neighborhoods of Chicago, Austin community preferred Demonstrated ability and commitment to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders around an issue including CBOs, government agencies, business owners and community residents Experience working in or managing network and community-wide programs and initiatives Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain strong relationships in the community Ability to work flexible hours Competency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Business Suite Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision and as part of a team Strong attention to detail, a willingness and ability to use data management tools, the ability to use email marketing and social media tools, and a high level of self-motivation Strong commitment to ACT's mission, vision and values To apply, please submit your resume and cover letter to Dearra Williams at dwilliams@austincomingtogether.org
