Position Summary:
The Academic Advisor will be responsible for providing academic advising for students who have not yet declared a specific major, first year students and students in poor academic standing. The advisor will also assist with other University College activities as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive advisement services to undecided students Serve as liaison for assigned academic college(s) Provide academic advising for New Student Orientation Staff advising center for walk-ins, extended hours and phone inquiries Present advising informational programs to students and faculty Contribute to campus-wide advisor enrichment initiatives Provide instruction for advisor training Provide instruction for students enrolled in Academic Standing Programs and First- Year Students as needed Assist with administrative duties within the office such as university withdrawals, change of majors and academic readmits Coordinate Retention Initiatives Assist in the day-to-day operation of the center and perform other duties as needed Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of state, federal and university policies and procedures governing student academic progress. Knowledge of student development theory. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to supervise a paraprofessional staff.
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Additional hours as requested and/or needed Regular and reliable attendance
Other:
. Day to day interaction with professional staff, students and public. Professional development encouraged.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in College Student Personnel or related field . One (1) year experience in an academic advising or college teaching role.
