POSITION SUMMARY
The Elementary School Counselor will oversee the successful implementation of the school counseling program in accordance with all applicable state and District guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures. Provides individual and small group counseling. Assists with the state-mandated testing program. Assists in the scheduling of classes. Assists with the registration and orientation of students who are new to the school regarding procedures and educational opportunities. Is aware of and abides by laws protecting a student's right to privacy. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings or by conducting research and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business community. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students, parents, and teachers. Provides counseling activities to assist students with educational, social, and career adjustment and planning. Promotes better understanding of the student and his educational, social, and career development and planning. Refers students to outside agencies or professional individuals when mental health needs warrant. Serves as a ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.

Experience Three to five years of teaching experience

Computer Skills Basic technology proficiency, with the ability to learn and implement district teacher technology to include grade reporting and parental communication technology (Grade Quick, Ed Line Programs) Certificates & Licenses Valid Arkansas Teacher's License with the appropriate certification, in addition to being a Highly Qualified Teacher in accordance with Arkansas Department of Education requirements.
