Classroom Teaching Teaching Full Job Description School Counselor Job Description:

The School Counselor is responsible for fostering the academic, social-emotional, and career development of all students. They provide short-term individual counseling, small group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, and crisis intervention. They also collaborate with staff and parents to support student mental health and academic success.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Proficiency in the identification and treatment of mental disorders Ability to think in terms of population management, addressing a large clientele in the most effective ways possible Knowledge of evidence-based behavioral assessments and interventions relevant to medical conditions Ability to make quick and accurate clinical assessments Care-management skills and knowledge of local resources for outside referrals Skill in targeted, brief psychotherapy and in running group sessions Assists in treatment planning for each child Conducts daily documentation Improves children's behavior through coping skills and other therapeutic interventions Conducts group and 1 on 1 counseling sessions Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive counseling and guidance program. Counsel individuals and small groups of students with presenting needs/concerns. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students. Use an effective process for assisting students and others to use special programs and services. Present the school comprehensive guidance curriculum. Assist teachers in the teaching of the school comprehensive guidance curriculum. Work with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to home and family relationships, health and emotional adjustment. Confer with parents whenever necessary. Assist in the orientation of new faculty members on school wide behavior program. Provide in service training in guidance for teachers and student teachers. Perform other counseling and guidance related duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Minimum 2 years of teaching experience Master's Degree in counseling is preferred. Valid Arkansas counseling certificate is preferred.

Contract Length and Compensation:

This is a 197 day contract with a 1.05 salarly multiplier based on the relevant teacher salary step in our compensation manual.
