Desert Sage High School seeks an experienced School Counselor to join our growing school community. Public Waldorf education is grounded in a deep understanding of healthy child development. We are looking for a counselor who sees teenagers through a developmental lens and is committed to helping students grow and mature in developmentally appropriate ways. The Counselor will work collaboratively with the leadership team (the Principal and Dean) to implement restorative practices that focus on helping students repair and strengthen their relationships with one another to work through conflict peacefully. The counselor will implement preventive measures at the school through classroom-based instruction, parent education nights, and school-wide celebrations and educational events, such as Health and Wellness Day. When students need more individualized support, the counselor will offer small-group and individual services to help them work through the challenges of being teenagers. About the

Situated in the beautiful Sonoran Desert in the city of Tucson, AZ, Desert Sage School is the first Public Waldorf high school in Southern AZ and the fifth public high school in the nation that is guided by the principles of Waldorf education. Desert Sage School serves students who are seeking a holistic, academically rigorous and arts-infused education. With a small town community feel, a thriving arts scene and countless hiking and biking trails, Tucson is a wonderful place to raise a family. It is also home to the University of Arizona.
Responsibilities:
Works collaboratively with the Principal and Dean to nurture a school culture where each individual is known and valued and where there are opportunities for each individual to contribute to the well-being of the school community Delivers classroom-based instruction focused on conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and healthy decision-making. Facilitates small group interventions for students experiencing common challenges such as anxiety, peer conflict, grief, and social skill deficits. Implements restorative practices, including structured mediation and restorative circles, to address peer conflicts and reduce disciplinary incidents while fostering accountability and relationship-building. Provides individualized support for students experiencing acute needs, including crisis intervention and response. Collaborates with leadership to bring schoolwide initiatives to expand awareness of mental health, including student workshops and family engagement opportunities such as informational nights and special days like Health and Wellness Day. Provides professional development for teachers and staff on trauma-informed practices to support classroom environments that are responsive to student needs. Serves as a central liaison between the school and community-based organizations, coordinating services to address both immediate and ongoing student needs. Collaborates regularly with these agencies through referrals, coordinated care, and follow-up communication ensuring continuity of services and reducing barriers to access. Serves as a member of the Safety Committee Serves as a member of the Student Success Team (MTSS Team) Attends faculty meetings and professional development meetings weekly
Requirements:
Commits to and represents the values, vision, and mission of Desert Sage School Maintains a valid ADE School Counselor or ADE Social Worker Certification Solid understanding of teen development Maintains strict confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Waldorf experience preferred Must be interested in learning about Waldorf approaches to trauma-informed pedagogy and restorative practices. Possesses current Arizona State fingerprint clearance card Bachelor's degree or higher Three years of relevant job experience preferred
