Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) Job Description and Duties Under the general supervision of the Evening Supervising Counselor at the California School for the Blind, the Evening Counselor is responsible for providing support and responsibilities to students that live in the dorm, which include but not limited to: Student daily living skills, activities, parent communication and safety drills. The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to walking up to two miles per day, bending, stooping, squatting, standing for up to one hour, lift up to 50 pounds, drag up to 50 pounds, raising arms over head, support weight, climbing, grasping, typing and report writing, balancing, kneeling and sitting for up to four hours continuously. (In addition to the below duties, Evening Counselors are responsible for the accountability, safety and security of students assigned them 100% of the time.)

- Evening-Shift Differential Pay (Prorated). The pay differential is not included in the salary listed below.
- This position has a Pay Differential 257
- Recruitment and Retention Pay of 10% of the base salary. The pay differential is not included in the salary listed below.
- Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented.
PLP 2025
requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 20, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 hours of

leave credits monthly through June 2027. The pay reduction is not included in the salary listed below.

Working Conditions Will work in a temperature-controlled environment with LED lighting. Will work in a dorm with male & female students. May sit at desk or sit/stand desk during working hours to perform daily duties & work w/ students. May be required to lift & carry boxes weighing up to 25 lbs. This position may be kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching overhead/above shoulder level, sitting. Will be around blind or visually impaired students & service animals. May escort students in emergency. This position requires the following pre-employment clearance:
Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment and or Test
Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ) Fingerprint Clearance.
