Non-Exempt, Part-Time, 15 per week Job Summary Reporting to the Director of, the Director of Disability Services & Student Support, the Academic Success Coach is responsible for with the provision of individualized support to Occidental College students, including students with learning concerns and who are having academic difficulties Job Duties 45%
  • Provide academic skill instruction to students with learning difficulties/disabilities. Assist with screening and reviewing of individual academic skill levels.
  • (Essential) 25%
  • Assist students with disabilities to understand cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Teach students effective learning strategies, such as test taking and note taking skills, on an individual basis. Learn, develop and utilize a variety of strategies to manage students' executive functioning skill.

  • Assist students in obtaining and utilizing campus resources (Emmons Wellness Center, Disability Services, Dean of Students Office, etc.)

  • Attend bi-weekly 1:1 meetings with supervisor and monthly team meetings.
  • (Essential) Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, Psychology, Counseling, Communications, Rehabilitation, English or other fields related to position responsibilities.
Enrollment/Acceptance into a Student Affairs/Counseling related graduate program. Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. One year of combination of education/experience working with students experiencing learning related disabilities. Working knowledge of the symptoms and needs of students with ADHS, learning disabilities and psychological disabilities. Working knowledge of Section 504 and ADA policies/regulations. Ability to analyze, synthesize and organize data, and present findings in a comprehensible manner for different audiences. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google drives/folders/forms, Adobe Acrobat, Web Editing, and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy. Strong commitment to a quality work product. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically. Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies. Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, inclusion & diversity. Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing work effectively in high-volume, high accountability, confidential environment with multiple and changing priorities. Effective organizational, logistical, time management and planning skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously, prioritize and fulfill the functions of an office in a timely manner. Ability to self-motivate and work independently. Ability to analyze, synthesize and organize data, and present findings in a comprehensible manner for different audiences. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching or tutoring in a one-on-one group setting.
