www.sfhs.net Add'l Salary Info 401(k) Basic Life/AD&D Long Term Disability Employee Assistance Program Employee base-plan medical coverage Employee dental coverage Personal Development Allocation St. Francis High School seeks a dedicated and student-centered Academic / College Counselor to provide comprehensive academic advising and post-secondary guidance to an assigned caseload of approximately 115-140 students, primarily juniors and seniors (approximately 50 per grade level). This role is integral to supporting students through academic planning, transcript evaluation, course selection, and the college admissions process. The counselor works closely with students, families, faculty, and college admissions representatives to ensure each student is prepared to pursue post-secondary opportunities aligned with his goals and abilities. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in college admissions, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to student development rooted in the Franciscan values of humility, compassion, service, and integrity. Essential Functions of the Position Provide individualized academic and college counseling for assigned students Conduct transcript audits and ensure graduation and college eligibility compliance Guide students and families through the college search, application, and decision process Evaluate applicants for admission to colleges of varying selectivity and provide strategic guidance Write personalized letters of recommendation Advise students on course selection and long-term academic planning Support career exploration through assessments and goal-setting conversations Monitor student academic progress and implement interventions as needed Assist families in understanding financial aid, college affordability, and scholarship opportunities Collaborate with faculty regarding student progress and teacher recommendations Facilitate classroom presentations using Naviance and College Board tools Maintain accurate and compliant student records and documentation Ensure compliance with
FERPA, NACAC
standards, and mandated reporting requirements Participate in student support and crisis response processes Represent St. Francis High School in interactions with college admissions representatives Model and promote Franciscan values in all student and community interactions
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications Education and Experience Master's degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, or related field required Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential required or in progress Minimum two (2) years of specialized experience in college counseling, academic counseling, or college admissions Minimum of three (3) years of successful high school counseling experience preferred. Demonstrated experience advising students on
UC/CSU A-G
requirements and NCAA eligibility. Experience working in a college preparatory or faith-based school environment preferred. Successful completion of background screening, fingerprinting, safe environment training, and mandated reporter certification required. Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding of college admissions processes and institutional selectivity Familiarity with a wide range of post-secondary pathways including four-year universities, community colleges, and trade programs Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong analytical and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Cultural competency and student-centered approach Commitment to confidentiality and ethical counseling practices Work Environment This position operates in a fast-paced, student-centered environment requiring frequent interaction with students, families, faculty, and administrators. Evening commitments and occasional travel for professional development and college visits are required. Ability to traverse multiple steps and stairs required.
