Job Description

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COUNSELOR DEFINITION
Under general supervision, provides Tier 1 & Tier 2 social /emotional support to students. Collaborates with staff and families to promote student self-understanding and positive school culture.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implements social / emotional learning curriculum.
  • Provides group and individual counseling to promote student engagement.
  • Serves as a source of information for the student with respect to their academic and social progress.
  • Assists in the collection and maintenance of pertinent pupil data and to provide consultation with teachers and principals regarding student needs in the area of social and emotional functioning
  • Collaborates with the school psychologist, principal, and other school staff as needed to coordinate student services
  • Provides consultation, regular feedback, and education to parents in appropriate parenting strategies to parents as needed
  • Attends parent conferences, Section 504 meetings, and SSTs as appropriate for selected students
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
  • Bachelors and / or masters degree in Counseling.
  • Successful experience providing counseling in the school setting.
  • Knowledge of grade-level content and assessments.
  • A valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential is required.
