Department Profile Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) at Cerritos College is a student support program designed to go "above and beyond" to provide equitable access and support services to students who face economic and educational barriers in higher education. Within this framework, the Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) program serves as a specialized subset of EOPS specifically for single-parenting students who receive cash aid (CalWORKs/TANF). Our mission is to enhance student achievement by fostering self-advocacy and providing the essential tools and "wrap-around" support necessary for our students to overcome obstacles and reach their academic and career goals. As part of the Division of Student Equity and Success, EOPS and CARE belong to a comprehensive department of support programs that also includes the LINC, NextUp, and CalWORKs programs. Counseling Duties
- Conduct a minimum of three (3) mandated counseling contact sessions per semester for each EOPS student, providing substantive academic, career, and personal guidance.
- Provide academic counseling and develop, review, and revise Comprehensive Student Educational Plans (CSEP) as defined by Title 5 for economically and educationally disadvantaged students.
- Assist students with major and career exploration to develop goal-aligned educational plans while proactively identifying and removing barriers to their success.
- Act as a dedicated student advocate when coordinating with campus and external partners to ensure equitable access to all support services and "over and above" resources.
- Identify students experiencing personal, financial, or academic crisis and facilitate immediate, direct connections to appropriate on-campus and off-campus support services and referral agencies.
- Design and facilitate "over and above" workshops—including intrusive interventions, academic recovery, and success seminars—tailored for the diverse student populations served by EOPS. Instructional Duties (if assigned)
- Teach any/all assigned Counseling classes for all scheduled minutes, designed specifically for the
EOPS/CARE
student population, utilizing culturally responsive teaching methodologies tailored to EOPS populations.- Teach courses in accordance with the course outlines of record.
- Provide opportunities for students to be aware of their progress.
- Submit a copy of the syllabus for each class to the Division Office.
- Keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress and submit them to appropriate offices by the published deadlines.
- Submit end-of-session grades, including supporting documentation, and attendance reports by the published deadlines. Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain currency with current information, concepts, laws and ideas in their disciplines and with best practices in teaching and learning.
- Check mailbox, voicemail, and e-mail regularly.
- Maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation and Board Policy 5040 titled Student Records and Directory Information.
- Attend EOPS department, Student Equity division and Counseling division meetings, as required.
- Participate in committee work, student activities, and shared governance activities as appropriate.
- Follow Board Policy 4005 and Administrative Procedure 4005 titled Duties and Responsibilities of Faculty Members.
