LOWER SCHOOL COUNSELOR - PART TIME
Laguna Blanca School is a college preparatory, coeducational day school located on two campuses in Santa Barbara, California. Grades EK-4 are located on a quaint campus in Montecito, while Grades 5-12 are located on Laguna's historic campus in idyllic Hope Ranch. Laguna Blanca emphasizes its core values of scholarship, character, balance, and community in its programs. Laguna Blanca School is currently accepting applications for a part-time (approx. 25 hours per week) , experienced School Counselor at the Montecito campus for the 2026-2027 school year.Main responsibilities include:
providing direct support to students by observing students behavior and monitors students' progress, works with faculty to create individualized Student Support Plans and communicates progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or Head of School. Student Success Provide mental health and behavior counseling to students. Actively collaborative with the Director of School Counseling, homeroom teachers, specialist teachers, and parents to design and align programming that supports behavioral and social-emotional growth of students. Coordinate and facilitate groups for students, such as for improving social skills or addressing behavior challenges. Complete regular reports for services provided, such as session notes and learning profiles. Submit referrals to outside agencies as necessary for students' social-emotional growth. Assists students and teachers with alternative organizational techniques, study skills, alleviation of anxiety, and executive functioning strategies. Supports students' transitions into next grade and division. Foster and sustain an atmosphere of emotional wellness among employees and students Develop school-based programs to support the psychological wellbeing of students within the context of the school community. Teach lessons to students that support the social and emotional educational needs of the students Case Management Evolve and implement a case management system that supports students that are struggling to learn and those who have diagnosed needs. Facilitate ongoing communication with families, teachers, and administrators to discuss accommodations, recommendations, supports, and student progress. Conduct student observations to inform follow-up with teachers and families. Campus Leadership Participate on the Student Support Team at the Lower School Educate staff about supporting neurodiverse students and work with teachers to effectively enable students to use diverse learning strategies in the classroom. Meet regularly with the Division Head to ensure student learning is progressing and families feel supported. Lead SEL thematic assembly lessons. Perform other duties as assigned. Provides timely feedback and communicates effectively with students and families about classroom activities and student progress, including during conferences, via report card narratives, and by maintaining an accurate gradebook. Identifies and supports students' social, emotional, and behavior learning needs. Demonstrates cultural competency in their teaching, teamwork, and leadership ability. Is committed to the values and the ongoing work of inclusion and belonging. Encourages and maintains a culture of mutual respect and equitable practice, both in the classroom and in the school community. Participates as an ambassador of the school to build and support relationships with all key constituents. This support includes participating in a range of school functions including but not limited to admission, alumni, and family events.Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, special education, social work, or a related field. Advanced degree/s in counseling, social work, psychology, special education, or related field highly preferred Demonstrated experience in effectively forming and leading teams of colleagues as a coach, mentor, director, or similar role Demonstrated skill in designing and executing systems for case managementPhysical Requirements & Work Environment:
Must be able to traverse school facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency Occasionally bend, stoop, squat and lift up to 40 lbs as part of job duties Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for school-related events or projects Have a current TB Assessment Must provide a clear fingerprint test and background check Have CPR and First Aid certifications or have the ability to become certified upon employmentNote:

Salary range $75,000 - $85,000 prorated on part time work depending on experience and credentials.
