Full time; Exempt (11-Month)DEFINITIONThe High School Counselor is responsible for providing counseling, guidance and advisement services for students to help them determine their educational, vocational and personal objectives. They help students to identify, mitigate and/or remove whatever factors exist as impediments to possible success in the areas of academic, vocational and/or personal achievements.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONSPromote good relationships and create networking opportunities and support for representatives with outside institutions or groups that can be helpful in attracting scholarshipsKeep relevant statistics on all aspects of the college acceptance processInitiate and create activities intended to interest parents and potential supporters in sending students to The Linfield Christian SchoolMeet with students prior to and during the registration process, inform the students of classes relative to course selection and assist the administration in the registration and scheduling processConduct follow-up meetings with students after the master schedule is developed to make any necessary changes in students schedules.

Conduct orientation meetings with all eighth grade students, public and returning, to provide information regarding class offering and registration proceduresProvide individual counseling for students regarding scheduling upon request of the student or his/her parent/guardianMake recommendations to students regarding class selection that take into consideration the student abilities, background and interestAssist new, transfer and foreign exchange students in enrollment, registration, class selection, grades in progress and the transfer of credits. He/she shall conduct a screening of cumulative records and/or parent/guardian/student interviews of all students new to the schoolProvide written contact and telephone calls to parents/guardians of senior students who are deficient in their credit statusMeet with student individually to discuss credits, courses and entrance exams required by colleges and technical schoolsOther duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSKNOWLEDGE
OFAcademic, social, and behavioral characteristics of high school level students.

ABILITY TODemonstrate a history of responsibility for and success at meeting targets Superior oral and written communications skills, including excellent presentation skills essentialAbility to engage with a variety of constituents (prospective and current students, alumni, faculty, etc.) from many different cultural backgroundsSuperior organizational skills; ability to manage micro and macro objectives and ability to execute multiple objectives concurrentlyRespond appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work setting.

EDUCATIONBachelors degree from an accredited college or university with experience and/or trainingEXPERIENCEPrevious teaching experience with high school age students preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING
CONDITIONSThe usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 75% sitting, 15% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a clean and healthy environment.
