06/23/2026 School Counselor The school counselor coordinates and carries out functions that provide educational, career, and personal guidance and counseling services. 1. Instruct in accordance with the Naugatuck teacher job description. 2. Develop and deliver the comprehensive school counseling curriculum. 3. Assist students in the areas of academic issues, career planning, and social/emotional development. 4. Provide individual and small group counseling within the realm of certification. 5. Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students in the school setting. 6. Confer with families and professionals in the school and community for the best interests of the students. 7. Plan, evaluate, and revise the school counseling program. 8. Pursue continuous professional growth to stay abreast of the field. 9. Promote and advise students and their parents as to the progress toward issues such as promotion/graduation, ranking, GPA, scholarships, and awards. 10. Prepare students for the transition to the next level: post high school activities. 11. Advocate for participation in various standardized testing programs. 12. Meet with students who are failing a course(s) and contact their parents. 13. Meet each student on his/her case load at least once during the course of the school year. 14. Work with the Dean of Students to counsel students with excessive absences or tardies. 15. Perform additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of employment and certification Required qualification: Certification in school counseling/guidance Reports to: Building principal and appropriate supervisor Work year: by contract
