GUIDANCE
COUNSELOR
QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Master's Degree from an accredited educational institution. (2) Eligible for certification as a Guidance Counselor by the State of Florida. (3) Satisfactory criminal background check.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
(1) Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics of children in the age group assigned. (2) Knowledge of current educational research, especially in the field of guidance and counseling. (3) Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology in the field. (4) Knowledge of varied learning styles and skill in using varied methods to counsel students with different learning styles. (5) Knowledge and skill in crisis prevention, intervention and arbitration techniques. (6) Knowledge of and skill in career counseling. (7) Knowledge of student referral procedures for special assistance. (8) Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents, and others. (9) Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness. (10)Ability to effectively assess levels of student ability and achievement, administer a variety of standardized tests, analyze and explain test results and prescribe actions for improvement. (11)Ability to work effectively with students, peers, administrators, community agencies, parents and others.

JOB GOAL
To lead students toward maturation and fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth.
SUPERVISES
Office Clerk as provided and assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES
(1) Participate on Child Study Teams. (2) Provide crisis intervention counseling. (3) Provide for small group and individual counseling and establish a system of student referral from school staff, parents and self-referrals. (4) Serve as a consultant to teachers, administrators and parents. (5) Provide and/or develop resources to teachers for the Student Development Program. (6) Coordinate the Peer Mediation/Conflict Resolution Program. (7) Serve as a liaison with parents, community agencies and other departments of the school system. (8) Interpret standardized tests and interest inventories. (9) Cooperatively work with the school administration to review the Student Development Program. (10)Be responsible for the development of the school plan for Student Development. (11)Identify and support students in need of assistance concerning grades, attendance and personal issues. (12)Work in partnership with parents in planning for students' individual needs. (13)Provide screenings for students being considered for special programs. (14)Provide inservice for teachers and staff as needs arise. (15)Be responsible for the maintenance of student records. (16) Perform any other related duties as assigned by the principal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. Position is seven and half hours per day; Instructional Salary Schedule
