Grade Qualifications:
A master's degree within the specific field of school counseling. Some experience working with students. Should communicate clearly. Should be able to work with faculty, parents, and students. Should possess good classroom management skills. ​
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide a comprehensive program of academic and career guidance with students. Academic advising will be a primary responsibility guiding students in the selection of their academic program.
Specific Duties:
Will provide a comprehensive program of academic and career counseling. Is responsible for course selection and scheduling for the middle/high school. Works with ACT and SAT program that has been adopted by the school for testing. Schedules Parent's Nights to inform parents and students of college information, including financial aid, and necessary testing requirements. Also assists with Orientation. Develops a portfolio for each student that tracks academic assessment and counseling beginning when students reach the eighth grade. Assist in developing an ongoing testing improvement program for all students at the school. Will give special attention to the programs to aid students of their SAT or ACT tests. Organizes and orders for the annual Achievement Tests each spring. Is a member of the Admissions Committee. On a timely basis at the end of each semester, notify parents/students of students on Academic Probation. Will complete the list so the Athletic Department is notified of any students who are ineligible. Instrumental in the presentation of Awards Day and at Graduation as pertains to guidance including all awards and scholarships. Will attend all High School faculty meetings and when necessary present material related to Guidance and the help needed from faculty. Understands the policies relating to Children and Family Services and the reporting requirements for administrators and faculty. Is a member of the administration and will attend admin meetings weekly to present information that regards to all things related to guidance. Other duties as assigned.   • Meet with new families to determine eligibility, create schedules, interpret IEPs for accommodations.
  • Update IEPS for all students who have them
  • Meet with parents to go over
  • Recommend retesting as needed
  • Plan to go over with teachers during inservice
  • Scheduling
  • Design and create schedule for ms/hs August
  • Work with families to ensure schedules are correct
  • Help organize orientations
  • Attend counselor workshops for updated things
  • Meet with each senior individually to plot senior year
  • Change schedules as needed to meet requirements
  • Book sale September
  • Meet with juniors to plan senior year and talk about what comes next to assist with looking at colleges October
  • Oversee school day testing for SAT and ACT as well as PSAT
  • Run report cards November
  • Prepare for spring semester December
  • Run first semester report cards
  • Finalize any schedule changes for spring semester January
  • Plan and host 5th grade rising parent night
  • Student meetings ongoing as needed February
  • Put together achievement test packets
  • Start the process of class choices for following year March
  • ACT and SAT school day testing April
  • Achievement testing including overseeing and assigning testing and then send off for scoring
  • Begin to prepare for awards day
  • Work with students on finalizing scholarships, college choices and Bright Futures May
  • Finalize preparations for awards day and graduation
  • Finalize report cards and transcripts to send for seniors
  • Prepare final report cards and test scores for all students Oct/Dec/March/May
  • Prepare and send report cards
  • Every three weeks send progress reports
  • As needed input test scores into RenWeb Ongoing
  • Student meetings as needed
