This position plays a vital role in supporting students' academic, social-emotional, college, and career development. The successful candidate will work closely with students, families, teachers, and administrators to help students thrive during high school and successfully transition to college and beyond. Fulton Science Academy primarily serves advanced and gifted students and prides itself on providing a supportive, growth-oriented working environment where faculty and staff can thrive both professionally and personally. The candidate hired for this position is expected to build healthy relationships with students, provide individualized guidance and support, assist students in navigating academic and personal challenges, and help students develop college and career plans. The counselor should embody Fulton Science Academy's core values (ICARE) and support the school's mission of developing intellectually curious, ethical, and resilient learners. We are seeking professionals who are fully committed to the school year and who are seriously considering a long-term career in education and student support. QualificationsRequired Minimum of a Master's Degree in School Counseling or Counseling Georgia School Counselor Certification Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Preferred Specialist Degree in School Counseling Experience as a High School Counselor and/or College Counselor Experience in college counseling, college admissions, enrollment management, or a related field within higher education Knowledge of college admissions processes, financial aid, and college planning Experience writing counselor recommendations and preparing school documents for highly selective college admissions Experience working with gifted and high-achieving students Experience using college counseling platforms and student information systems Key Responsibilities Include Serve as a member of the High School Leadership Team and contribute to initiatives that support student success, school culture, and continuous improvement. Provide academic, college, career, and social-emotional counseling to high school students. Guide students and families through course selection, graduation planning, and academic goal setting. Support students throughout the college admissions process, including college exploration, application planning, essay development, recommendation coordination, and financial aid guidance. Assist in preparing school reports, counselor recommendations, transcripts, and other college-related documentation. Monitor student academic progress and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success. Analyze student data and trends to support academic planning, college readiness, and school improvement efforts. Provide individual and small-group counseling as needed. Support student wellness initiatives and promote a positive school climate. Lead and facilitate daily and rotating 25 minute college and career readiness sessions for high school students Develop and maintain genuine, positive, and consistent communication with students, parents, faculty, and staff. Assist with dual enrollment testing logistics, including exam coordination/proctoring Plan and coordinate college counseling events, workshops, college visits, and informational sessions for students and families. Work collaboratively with the Counseling Department and High School Team. Contribute to and benefit from the broader school community. Practice professionalism through ongoing professional development, reflection, and continuous improvement. Assist the high school leadership team in the planning, organization, and implementation of graduation and other major high school events. Support and lead Fulton Science Academy's Social-Emotional Learning initiatives, including participation in a daily 25-minute timeframe focused on SEL, character education, leadership development, and the school's House System. Perform other duties as assigned.
