Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development. This position involves working closely with students, parents, and faculty to create a nurturing environment that fosters personal growth and academic success. The School Counselor will provide individual and group counseling, facilitate conflict resolution, and offer guidance on academic advising while promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect for cultural diversity. Responsibilities Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing academic, social, and emotional challenges. Conduct conflict management sessions to help resolve interpersonal issues among students. Assist in academic advising to help students make informed decisions regarding their educational paths. Implement behavior management strategies to support positive student behavior in the classroom. Collaborate with teachers to develop strategies that support children with special education needs. Conduct standardized testing and interpret results to guide student development plans. Offer mental health counseling services as needed, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards. Engage with child protective services when necessary to ensure the welfare of students. Facilitate workshops on childhood development topics for parents and staff. Advocate for students' needs within the school system while promoting child welfare initiatives. Conduct staff professional development sessions Develop and manage 504 Plans Collects data and reports on student outcomes from classroom guidance, small group, and individual consultations. Facilitates the referral of students and parents to internal and external services. Serves as McKinney Vento liaison Coordinates transition activities for students in grades K and 5. Supports planning and implementation of student programs and ceremonies Supports analyzing standardized test data Provide morning and afternoon carpool support/cafeteria support Other duties as administratively assigned Requirements Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field with experience working with children and students. Certified GaPSC in School Counseling Crisis Prevention Intervention Certified (or similar) Strong communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, and faculty members. Experience in behavioral health or mental health counseling is preferred. Knowledge of childhood development principles and practices. Familiarity with special education processes and resources available for students with disabilities. Experience in classroom settings or childcare environments is advantageous. Ability to manage diverse cultural backgrounds sensitively through cultural diversity counseling practices. Skills in individual/group counseling techniques along with experience in conflict resolution are essential. Understanding of social work principles as they relate to school settings is beneficial.
