Purpose of the Position:
The Behavior Interventionist serves as a support resource for students demonstrating academic, behavioral, emotional, and/or social challenges that interfere with success in the school setting. This position works collaboratively with classroom teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff to implement behavior intervention strategies, provide academic and behavioral support, and assist students in developing the skills necessary to be successful within the general education environment.
The Behavior Interventionist helps create a structured, supportive, and positive learning environment while maintaining high expectations for student growth, safety, and success.
Minimum Requirements:
The following qualifications represent the minimum requirements necessary for an individual to perform this position effectively.
High School Diploma
Social work experience and/or a background in counseling,therapy services, or ABA. Must be CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention Trained or be willing to complete training. Essential Functions of the Position:
The following functions have been determined by GCSEC to be essential to the successful performance of this position.
Work with students with academic & behavioral difficulties.
Experience with students who exhibit maladaptive behaviors. Assess a student's social needs and provide appropriate strategies to meet those needs. Complete and be accountable for the paperwork that includes the interventions/strategies or other requested data for the students targeted for this support. Maintain Confidentiality of all students Communicate progress and outcomes with the teacher of the classroom, school administrative team, and parents/family members of the students. The following functions have been determined to be essential to the successful performance of this position:
Support students experiencing academic, behavioral, emotional, or social difficulties
Assist classroom teachers with implementing behavior intervention plans, de-escalation strategies, and classroom supports
Provide supervision and structured support to students assigned to the behavior support classroom or intervention setting
Help students develop coping skills, self-regulation strategies, conflict resolution skills, and positive peer interactions
Monitor and document student behaviors, interventions, progress, and outcomes as directed
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, special education staff, and families regarding student progress and needs
Assist with re-entry and transition plans for students returning to the classroom setting
Model and reinforce appropriate behaviors, social skills, and school expectations
Support students in completing academic assignments and maintaining engagement with coursework
Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records
Participate in professional development and required trainings related to student behavior, safety, and intervention strategies
Assist in crisis situations and utilize approved nonviolent intervention techniques when necessary
Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment
Secondary Functions of the Position:
The following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined to be marginal to the successful performance of this position:
Facilitate positive interactions between students, staff, peers, and families
Assist with attendance improvement efforts and student engagement initiatives
Evaluate and reflect on intervention effectiveness and recommend adjustments when appropriate
Participate in student support meetings and case conferences as requested
Assist with supervision duties as assigned
Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by the classroom teacher, building principal, and/or GCSEC leadership members

Equipment used: Computer, copier, Instructional equipment.

School building and classroom.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to walk, sit or stand for long periods of time.
Must be able to intercede with student elopement (run, walk quickly). Must be able to crouch, or bend over to get on student level.
Must be able to carry up to 25 lbs if necessary.
