Responsibilities:
Provide a variety of counseling and guidance services for a grade level to promote and enhance student development and achievement; monitor, assess, identify and respond to the needs, issues, and problems of students; uses data to provide guidance and advisement to students regarding academics, course selections, schedules, and other academic matters. Assess student needs and provide assistance in identifying, developing and meeting personal, vocational and educational goals and objectives; assist students with developing educational, vocational and career plans and strategies; develop and implement individual student plans in accordance with identified issues, needs, goals, and objectives. Provide responsive services to students and parents through consultation, personal counseling, group counseling, and crisis counseling; refer students and families to school and community educational programs, services and educational and vocational resources according to identified needs, interests, goals and objectives. Coordinate, conduct, oversee and participate in various school activities such as Focused Instructional Time (FIT) before and after school supervision, day and evening school programs and events, year end awards, and extra-curricular programs. Evaluate the educational needs of students and make recommendations to parents, students and appropriate administrators concerning student placement/credit/course requirements; assist students with class registration, scheduling and program changes as needed; facilitate the transition from Middle School to High School. Attend and participate in professional learning activities as directed. Adhere to the Indiana Program Standards for School Counseling. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit and must demonstrate participation in and contributions to the goals of district cross functional teams. Assists with administering standardized tests, surveys and gathering and interpreting the data for students, parents and staff.
Qualifications:
The preferred candidate must have a valid school counseling license. The preferred candidate will have experience working with high school aged children. The preferred candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively. The preferred candidate has teaching and counseling experience via internship or counseling position.
