BASIC FUNCTION
To direct and coordinate pupil services. To assist all students in overcoming problems that are barriers to learning; to assist students in the development of skills of personal/social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational planning.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Creates a climate conducive to counseling Employs a variety of effective guidance and counseling procedures Displays competent knowledge of guidance and counseling Promotes a school environment conducive to positive growth and development Organizes a systematic, developmental guidance program Implements the guidance program effectively Attends staff meetings, serves on staff committees, and accepts a share of responsibility for extracurricular activities Duties may include performance of health services, for which training will be provided Oversees student enrollment Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrator
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE

Curriculum, instruction, and assessment Child guidance strategies Social and emotional health and wellness Record-keeping techniques Operation of a computer terminal and data entry techniques Oral and written communication skills Laws, rules, and regulations related to assigned activities Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
ABILITIES
To perform the responsibilities as previously outlined Understand and follow oral and written directions Communicate effectively both orally and in writing Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others Maintain records and prepare reports Operate a computer terminal and navigate technology Prioritize and schedule work Learn, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines Work independently with little direction Meet schedules and timelines
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The work is primarily sedentary. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work at times requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights. The work requires activities involving driving automotive equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience and preparation required by the Board Demonstrates knowledge of current curriculum, instructional, and child guidance trends and techniques
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Kentucky certification appropriate to the grade level and curricular assignment (School Counselor) Has met the requirements for criminal records check and child abuse and neglect check as specified by Kentucky State Law Contracts are with the district of Breckinridge County Public Schools, not with individual locations.
