Job Description
Description Preamble Boston College High School is a Catholic, Jesuit, independent school serving approximately 1400 young men across grades 7-12 from various communities across Massachusetts. Founded in 1863, Boston College High School continues its commitment to an authentic formation of the head, heart, and hands within the parameters of the Characteristics of Jesuit Education, the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm, the BC High Mission Statement, and the strategic plan. SUMMARY Boston College High School seeks a learning specialist to support students with learning differences in the Arrupe Middle School (grades 7-8). This is a twelve-month position starting on August 17, 2026.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITY
Teach two sections of an Academic Skills class designed for 7th and 8th grade students in need of additional literacy instruction Work with students one-on-one and in small groups in the Academic Resource Center on organization, time management, study skills, and self-advocacy and support them with homework assignments. Serve as the primary point of contact for one grade level of middle-school students with learning differences, including participating in students' 504 and IEP meetings with home district; helping develop student support plans; and maintaining communication between families, advisor, teachers, and counselor. Support faculty in working with students with diverse learning needs including offering differentiation strategies, providing additional support in content classrooms, and conducting student observations. Support the Coordinator of the Arrupe Academic Resource Center (ARC), with other projects and functions. Collaborate with faculty, school counselors, the Coordinator of the Arrupe ARC, Arrupe administration, and the Director of the Learning Enhancement Center. Assist in enrollment process by reviewing applications of students with learning differences and offering feedback to Enrollment team. Serve as an Arrupe advisor by mentoring a small group of students, supporting their academic and social-emotional growth and fostering strong relationships with families. Participate in school-wide, community events including professional development days, masses, admissions events & graduation events. Requirements Qualifications (required): Bachelor's degree. Minimum of 2 years of experience working with middle school students and/or students with learning differences Strong understanding of differentiation, executive functioning, ADHD, learning differences, language-based learning disabilities, and other learning profiles. Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment. Collaborative mindset and commitment to fostering strong relationships with students, families, and faculty. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Qualifications (preferred): Master's degree in secondary education, curriculum and instruction, Special Education, learning disabilities, school psychology, or related field. Experience interpreting psychoeducational or neuropsychological evaluations. Training in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or similar program desired.Similar jobs in Boston, MA
