Job Description

The Public Schools of Brookline Schools TITLE:
METCO Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and certification or license as a School Adjustment Counselor or K-8 Guidance Counselor required; Master's Degree in Social Work or related mental health disciplines preferred.
JOB GOAL
To help identify METCO students who demonstrate signs of emotional, behavioral, or social concerns and to take action steps to intervene so these concerns are met with direct services or given the resources to provide support in preventing any further digressions and assist in improving academic, personal and social functioning.
Salary:
Commensurate with the Salary and Benefit Schedule (Unit A), 183 days
MAJOR DUTIES
Include, but are not limited to… Provides services involving academic, social, emotional, personal and/or family matters by counseling individuals, groups and families; and provides support and counseling to students and families during times of crisis Assists in the planning and participation of student conferences Helps facilitate a transition program for rising 9th graders Serves as a liaison between students, home and school and provides input on home visits when necessary Attends student centered meetings when appropriate or requested; for example, IEPs, 504s, or Parent-Teacher Conferences Attend district wide Pupil Support Service Meetings as well as school based clinical and study teams to be aware of or to make recommendations for interventions and/or evaluations Participates in the selection and orientation process for new METCO students and families Attends METCO staff meetings and appropriate METCO events Makes referrals to community agencies by identifying appropriate agencies and providing support until the transfer of case has occurred Provides consultation with school staff to help with effectiveness around issues and concerns pertinent to METCO students, students of color and their families Regularly communicates with METCO Director any concerns, programming needs, and support needed to effectively serve students and families This position may involve some evening meetings with families or community groups and attendance to advocate at court related procedures, hearings or litigation. This person must adhere to professional and ethical standards, policies and laws in conduct and practices as well as district policy.
Reports to:
The Brookline METCO Director with support from the Director of Clinical Services and Social Emotional Learning and the building Principal
