General Responsibilities:
The School Counselor is responsible for assisting students in their overall experience during high school through consultations, programming, and direct services to students, teachers, and parents.
Specific Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain trusting relationships with students to provide equitable, individualized, and effective support. Provide academic advising and counseling to address students' social-emotional, personal, and academic needs. Collaborates with teachers in supporting students' personal, social, and academic needs; Assists students and parents in understanding the student's social, academic, and personal needs; Identify students requiring targeted or intensive mental health, social-emotional, or medical support; make referrals to community agencies and collaborate with outside care providers. Provides post-secondary guidance to students and families; Support students facing challenges with attendance, engagement, or academic performance, collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators as needed. Collaborates closely with teachers, administration, academic support staff, clinical staff, special education staff, and parents in order to help students reach their academic and social-emotional goals. Enrolls new students in grades 9-12 Assist students in technical program and academic course selection, ensuring that they are meeting graduation requirements and making selections that best match their post-secondary plans. Write counselor recommendation letters for college; Participate in a variety of teams and programs to identify student needs and develop appropriate intervention plans, such as Student Support Teams, Student Intervention Team, Section 504, Special Education, etc. Implements guidance seminar curricula in grades 9-12 and suggests revisions where appropriate; Assumes such other duties as may be assigned by the Coordinator of School Counseling and Head of School.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's and Master's degrees; Massachusetts certification in School Counseling; grades 5-12 Staff position is a one year, 0.5 FTE, who reports directly to the coordinator of school counseling.
