Full-time Job Description:
Dover-Sherborn High School is seeking a skilled School Adjustment Counselor for our GRIT (Growth, Resiliency, Integrity, Tenacity) Program. Based on a therapeutic learning center model, GRIT provides a supportive home-based environment for students navigating emotional, social-emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges that require interventions beyond the traditional classroom setting. In this role, you will partner closely with the programs Special Education Liaison to maintain a therapeutic milieu. Together, you will explicitly teach students emotional regulation, social skills, and coping strategies, helping them manage vulnerabilities while maintaining high academic achievement.
Key Responsibilities Counseling Support:
Provide targeted individual and small-group counseling.
Collaboration:
Consult with program staff, general education teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure comprehensive student support and continuity of interventions throughout the school day.
Intervention & Strategy:
Utilize evidence-based research to develop, implement, and monitor social-emotional interventions and behavior systems.
Special Education Documentation:
Contribute to student evaluations, progress monitoring, data collection, IEP development, and progress reporting.
Qualifications & Candidate Qualities Clinical Expertise:
Deep knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practices, and best practices in social-emotional learning (SEL).
Collaboration Skills:
Proven ability to work within a professional learning community and build strong partnerships with parents/guardians.
Relational Skills:
Strong ability to form positive, respectful relationships with students and staff.
Core Competencies:
Exceptional organizational, leadership, and oral/written communication skills.
