Aug 19, 2026 Job Description Advanced Math and Science Academy, a college preparatory charter school, is seeking to hire committed, skilled, and inspiring educators. AMSA is committed to preparing all students to succeed in college and beyond. Located in Marlborough, MA, AMSA includes 6th through 12th grade classes. The Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time, High School Counselor to start on August 19, 2026. This is a 1.0 FTE position. Teachers and Staff Members at Advanced Math and Science Academy will:
  • Focus intensely on increasing academic achievement, content knowledge, and character growth for all students.
  • Create inspiring, challenging, and effective teaching and learning experiences for all our students.
  • Be committed to serving all students, including English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities, in the context of the regular education classroom using a variety of inclusion models.
  • Contribute to a strong and supportive professional learning community.
Job Responsibilities:
The High School Counselor will:
  • Provide direct academic, social/emotional, and college/career guidance and support services to students individually, small groups, and in classrooms/large groups.
  • Help students to set academic, personal, college and career goals.
  • Provide responsive services as needed to address academic, social and emotional concerns.
  • Attend IEP and 504 meetings for eligible students in caseload.
  • Monitor students at academic risk and collaborate with teachers and parents to help students create a plan for success.
  • Advise groups and individual high school students (and their families) on all aspects of the college application and post-secondary planning process.
  • Write letters of recommendation and coordinate Naviance student applications and reports.
  • Assist in the writing of curriculum for and teaching grade level seminars using Naviance and MEFA platforms.
  • Aid in the planning of all college and career related events including evening information sessions.
  • Develop, manage, and adjust student course schedules in alignment with academic goals, graduation requirements, and post-secondary plans.
  • Collaborate with the school counseling team to deliver timely information via email and school website.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff to implement curriculum and build school culture across the school.
  • Participate in summer professional development (as needed) of up to an additional week (or equivalent time) prior to the start of the school year.
  • Assist with the planning and administration of standardized testing (AP & PSAT)
  • Work with administration to uphold and support all school policies and procedures.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned by Director of School Counseling.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned in helping to maintain a safe and orderly school environment, (i.
e. traffic and/or lunch duties)
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Counseling/School Counseling and Massachusetts School Guidance Licensure grades 5-12 are required.
  • Ability to collaborate, work well under pressure, and maintain a sense of humor and humility.
  • Familiarity with Google Docs, Naviance, and PowerSchool preferred.
  • Strong counseling skills and ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience, specifically with the college application process, is strongly preferred.
  • Strong commitment to Advanced Math and Science Academy's mission, values, and educational model.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States.
Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment. Salary negotiable pending years of experience and in accordance with the CBA.
