JOB GOAL

To assist students with educational, occupational and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature responsible men and women and to help students overcome problems that impede learning.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Provides academic advice, career planning and placement services for students. 2.Assists students with selection of appropriate courses. 3.Provides counseling that will lead each student to personal growth, self-understanding and maturity. 4.Carries out the school's mission for students, parents and the community at large. 5.Familiarizes teachers and staff members with the range of service offered by the guidance department. 6.Confers with parents/guardians as needed. 7.Assembles, interprets and evaluates progress reports, transcripts and assessment results for assigned students and maintains information in guidance folder system. 8.Coordinates and participates in meetings with students, parents/guardians, faculty and principal in order to facilitate resolutions to students' academic and/or personal difficulties. 9.Conducts individual career/guidance interviews to counsel students in grades 9 through 12. 10.Processes applications for colleges and other post-secondary schools for grade 12 students. 11.Provides and disseminates financial aid information to students and parents/guardians to assists with the application process for financial assistance for post-secondary education. 12.Develops and conducts career, guidance and testing group workshops for students in grades 9 through 12. 13.Refers 'at risk' students to school adjustment counselor for evaluation and support services. 14.Recommends students for special education evaluations and services, participates in team meetings and assists with the implementation of individualized educational plans (IEP's) and accommodation plans. 15.Participates in the administration of assessments (i.e.

MCAS, AP

Tests, PSAT, SATI/II, etc). 16.Helps to maintain and update current materials in the high school's career center. 17.Helps create and produce guidance department newsletters for the grades 9 through 12 community. 18.Participates in high school's college night, financial aid night and evening career programs. 19.Keeps current with developments in guidance and counseling through professional development activities. Performs additional duties as directed by the superintendent, principal and/or Director of SEL/Counseling and Student Growth.
