SEED provides students with a tuition free education in a supportive, structured, and mission driven environment designed to prepare students for success in college and beyond. At SEED, college access and college completion are central to our work. We are seeking a dedicated and student centered College Counselor to support students and families throughout the college search, application, financial aid, and selection process. Position Overview The College Counselor plays a critical role in helping students identify, apply to, and enroll in colleges that are strong academic, financial, social, and personal fits. This position supports students in grades 11 and 12 while also helping strengthen college readiness programming across the school. The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of college access, right fit college advising, financial aid, student data systems, and family engagement. This person should be organized, relational, equity minded, and committed to helping historically underrepresented students successfully navigate the path to college. The College Counselor reports to the Senior Coordinator of College Counseling. Key Responsibilities Provide proactive, high touch college counseling to a caseload of approximately 80 to 100 students in grades 11 and 12 Support students in developing balanced, high quality college lists aligned with their interests, strengths, goals, and long term success Guide students and families through the college search, application, financial aid, scholarship, and enrollment process Serve as a co teacher and facilitator for Junior and Senior Seminar Support FAFSA completion, Maryland grant opportunities, scholarships, and other college funding resources Coordinate college admissions representative visits and serve as a liaison with college and university partners Monitor and maintain college readiness and college success data, including right fit applications, FAFSA completion, college acceptances, and scholarship awards Prepare and present college related data for internal reporting and planning Collaborate with academic, admissions, family engagement, counseling, and student support teams to ensure students and families receive clear and consistent college guidance Create early college exposure opportunities for lower school students in partnership with school counseling staff Maintain the College Center and related displays to promote a strong college going culture Participate in grade level meetings and college knowledge and advising committee meetings Support the broader mission, visibility, and effectiveness of the College Readiness department Qualifications Bachelor's degree required 3 to 5 years of experience in college access, college admissions, college counseling, school counseling, student success, or a related field preferred Strong understanding of the college match process and right fit college advising Knowledge of FAFSA, financial aid, scholarships, and Maryland based grant funding opportunities Experience working with students and families from historically underrepresented communities Ability to provide both individual and group college counseling Strong organizational, communication, and follow through skills Experience using student information or college access systems such as Naviance, PowerSchool, Common Application, or similar platforms preferred Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams Willingness to work flexible hours when needed to support students and families Desired Skills and Competencies Strong relationship building skills with students, families, staff, and college partners High attention to detail and strong records management practices Comfort using data to monitor student progress and improve advising practices Strong public speaking and presentation skills Commitment to equity, access, student achievement, and college completion Alignment with SEED's core values of compassion, gratitude, growth, integrity, perseverance, respect, and responsibility
