Job Description

The School Counselor supports a broad range of social-emotional needs to best position students for academic success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned.
  • Provides counsel for students through academic/social/emotional challenges they face.
  • Is available to work with parents of children experiencing academic, social, behavioral or emotional difficulties
  • Implements a grade level appropriate guidance program through regularly scheduled instruction.
  • Consults regularly with teachers, administrators, support staff and parents regarding academic/social/emotional issues related to students.
  • Participates in identification of at-risk students and the planning and delivery of services to address their needs.
  • Collaborates with administration and faculty in the implementation of the various federal, state, and local assessments including ordering, scheduling, assisting teachers in regards to administration, administering make-up tests and interpreting results.
  • Maintains case management for 504 students and participates in appropriate meetings including IEPs, committee meetings, building meetings, etc.
  • Remains current on the latest school counseling practices and theories through workshops, course work, conferences, and professional organizations.
  • Adheres to ethical standards, performance standards, and program components of the Maine Comprehensive School Counseling Model K-12.
