Job Description

Copper Island Academy is seeking a Student Success & Behavior Coordinator to join our outstanding educational team beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Organization Overview Copper Island Academy, nestled in the scenic Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan, is a K-11 public school academy dedicated to equipping all students with the skills needed for college, career, and life success. We blend the proven strengths of Finnish educational practices with core American values, creating a dynamic environment that fosters lifelong learning and personal growth. Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate and student-centered Student Success & Behavior Support Coordinator to join our team and growing school community. The ideal candidate will support the social-emotional, behavioral, and academic success of students through the implementation of schoolwide PBIS systems, behavior intervention supports, SEL programming, and strong school-home communication practices. This individual will work collaboratively with staff, students, and families to foster a positive and supportive school culture aligned with Copper Island Academy's mission and values. The position has an anticipated start date of August 3, 2026. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field preferred. Experience working with K-12 students in educational, behavioral, counseling, or student support settings. Knowledge of PBIS frameworks, restorative practices, behavior intervention strategies, and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs. Experience supporting students with behavioral, emotional, or academic needs. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff. Commitment to fostering a positive, engaging, and joy-filled school culture. Familiarity with Finnish education practices and student-centered learning approaches preferred. Duties Student Success & Behavioral Support Support schoolwide behavioral systems and PBIS implementation to promote a positive, consistent, and supportive learning environment. Assist students in developing self-regulation, problem-solving, communication, and social-emotional skills. Provide proactive behavioral support and intervention for students experiencing academic, emotional, or behavioral challenges. Collaborate with School Wellness Program behavioral health provider, school leaders, teachers and support staff to develop and implement behavior support plans and student success strategies. Support restorative approaches that promote accountability, relationship-building, and student growth. Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Collaborate with School Wellness Program behavioral health provider to implement schoolwide SEL initiatives and programming. Provide small-group or individual student support focused on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, organization, and student success skills. Help connect students with appropriate school and community resources when additional support is needed. School-Home Communication Serve as a positive liaison between school and families regarding student behavior, attendance, engagement, and overall success. Maintain regular communication with families to celebrate student growth and collaboratively address concerns. Support students and families in developing plans and strategies that encourage positive school engagement and success. Collaboration and School Culture Work collaboratively with teachers, administration, special education staff, and support personnel to support student needs. Participate in problem-solving meetings, MTSS processes, and student support planning. Contribute to maintaining a safe, respectful, and student-centered school environment. Participate in ongoing professional learning related to PBIS, SEL, behavior intervention, and student support practices. Compensation commensurate with experience.
