K-8 School Counselor, Part-time Catholic Diocese of Lansing East Lansing, MI Job Details Part-time 8 hours ago Qualifications Bachelor's degree Full Job Description St. Thomas Aquinas Parish School is seeking a compassionate School Counselor to support the emotional, social, and academic well-being of students. The counselor will work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to provide social-emotional guidance and assist in the development of individualized accommodations. This position plays a key role in nurturing the whole child and fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive school community. This position is non-exempt at 19 hours per week and reports to the principal.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the identification of student needs and implement proactive strategies for social and emotional growth and positive interactions in the classroom. Encourage social and emotional literacy and growth in classrooms and throughout the school. Collaborate with teachers and staff to address concerns and support classroom management plans. Support the creation and implementation of student accommodation plans, including service plans for students receiving support through public or private agencies. Help manage and monitor non-public school service plans, ensuring compliance with all legal and diocesan guidelines. Facilitate referrals to outside services when additional support is needed for students and families. Promote a positive school climate that reflects the Catholic values and mission of the school. Participate in team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development opportunities. Maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation of services provided. Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Education:
Bachelor's degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (required) Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or a related discipline (strongly preferred).
Experience:
Experience working with elementary or K-8 students in a counseling or school setting. Knowledge of social-emotional learning (SEL) frameworks and intervention strategies. Familiarity with special education processes, accommodations, and non-public service plans (e.g., ISP, 504). Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
