Job Summary:
The Elementary School Counselor will support students' academic, social, and emotional growth at Mason's Elementary Schools. In this role, you will provide individual and group counseling, collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary student support team, and help foster an inclusive, positive school climate where every child feels safe, valued, and ready to learn. Education and Experience (Required):

Possess a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from an accredited institutionAndPossess a valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate with an endorsement in counseling (NT)ORPossess a School Counselor LicenseORPossess a Preliminary Authorization to work as a School CounselorORPossess a Temporary School Counselor Authorization Education and Experience (Desired, not required): School counseling experience at the elementary level with involvement in organizing and conducting group guidance activities Active involvement in guidance and counseling professional organizationsEstablished record of positive attitude and rapport with studentsExcellent interpersonal skillsCollaborative/Growth orientatedDemonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues, families, and students.

Willingness to learn new skills, to be reflective, and to acquire new knowledge along with evidence of being flexible and having superior problem-solving skills.

Evidence of being highly organized and having excellent time-management skills.

Proven leadership qualities such as being a member of a school improvement team, a member of a curriculum council, a chair of a student organization, or the chair of a grade level or department.

Certification in additional subject areas.
Essential Duties, Skills, and Responsibilities:
Provide counseling services to assigned students or groups to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic, and family concerns. Assist staff members in meeting the needs of students, including partnering with another Elementary School Counselor, School Social Workers (4), District Mental Health Specialist (1), School Nurses (1), Behavior Support Specialists (2), and Restorative Justice Staff (2). Familiarity and understanding of Comprehensive GuidanceInterpersonal skills in areas of crisis management and problem solvingUpdate and maintain confidential student recordsIdentify students with specific needs and make appropriate recommendations and referrals.

Knowledge of how to work with students through social/emotional issues and behavior issuesAbility to make connections with community partners and resourcesAbility to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff membersFamiliarity with state testingKnowledge of 504 process and implementation
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking. The position requires occasional lifting of supplies.

Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with some travel to other schools or field trip locations.
Work Year:
Per the MDMEA bargaining unit agreement

Per the MDMEA Agreement ($50,750 to $91,193) Commensurate with experience
