Full-time Position Summary:
The Reed City Middle School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate school counselor to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will be committed to advocating for all students, collaborating with staff and families, and implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that meets the diverse needs of middle school learners.
Required Qualifications:
Must possess and maintain proper certification as established by state law (NT) (SCL).
Experience:
Previous experience working with middle school students is preferred.
Responsibilities:
Work with the building principal to create a master schedule and revise it as needed. Coordinate student schedules and assist with registration. Implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with state and national standards. Provide individual and small group counseling to support students' academic, social-emotional, and career development. Facilitate classroom guidance lessons on topics such as conflict resolution, study skills, mental health awareness, and career exploration. Use data to identify student needs and evaluate the effectiveness of counseling interventions. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to create a positive school climate and address barriers to learning. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to support student success and connect families with community resources and/or family services when needed. Respond to crises and provide immediate support to students and staff as needed. Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with FERPA and district policies. Participate in professional development and stay current on best practices in school counseling. Assist with the coordination of 504 plans, Section 504 meetings, and other student support services as required. Assist building administrators with attending IEP meetings as needed. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Valid State of Michigan School Counselor Certification (or eligibility for certification). Valid teaching certificate and teaching experience preferred Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field. Experience working with middle school students is preferred. Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development, mental health, and academic interventions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build trust with students, families, and staff. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
