Monticello High School Centrally located less than 25 miles Northwest of Maple Grove and 30 miles Southeast of Saint Cloud, Monticello is home to six brick and mortar schools and two nature based facilities serving more than 4,000 students annually. Monticello consistently ranks in the top 50 school districts in the state as measured by a number of organizations and metrics, and performs above the state average in graduation rates, test scores, and early college opportunities. School Counselor (High School) Monticello High School Full-Time Position (1 FTE) Available August 2026
Position Summary:
To contribute towards a comprehensive school counseling program which includes academic, career, and personal social domains designed to fit the needs of MHS's student population and characteristics. The school counselor provides programming which includes conflict resolution skills, coping and refusal skills, character education, diversity, and study skills. Education and Certification Requirements:
Required:
Minnesota state licensure from PELSB as a school counselor.
Education and Experience:
Preferred:
Experience in school counseling.
Preferred:
Experience working in a secondary school setting.
Preferred:
Experience/training with CLR (Culturally and Linguistically Responsive) methods. Essential Competencies Required to Perform the
Work:
Effective communication and teaming skills, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents, teachers, administrators, community, and staff. Advanced knowledge of educational, personal and career counseling principles, trends, methods, and procedures. Knowledge of district educational and administrative policies and procedures. Knowledge of educational, career and personal development resources; standardized testing. Crisis intervention concepts, principles, and techniques. Knowledge of the fundamentals, concepts, methods, and techniques of quantitative and qualitative statistics. Knowledge of all laws, statutes, or guidelines pertaining to data privacy, ethical standards of school counseling or as they pertain to the duties of the work. Knowledge of career inventories and college requirements. Knowledge of community and referral sources. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to analyze data, identify student needs, and develop appropriate interventions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability. Adept in using and learning new technology. Ability to demonstrate professionalism and ethical practices. Maintain confidentiality of information about students and families. Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks independently. Commitment to cultural competence and the ability to work with diverse student populations.
