The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation by the Superintendent of Schools.SALARY:

The successful applicant for this position must possess and/or show evidence of the following:- Has Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling
- Has valid certification as established by state certification requirements.
- Exhibits ability to select, interpret, administer tests and inventories.
- Exhibits strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrates knowledge of current counseling methods.
- Exhibits knowledge and/or experience in intervention techniques in destructive behavior patterns that prohibit students from learning.
- Exhibits ability to develop appropriate counseling goals by designing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive Developmental Guidance Program.
- Exhibits ability to determine individual school needs and deliver appropriate program(s).
- Exhibits ability to work effectively with the school's administration, teaching staff, and parents.
- Exhibits ability to assist in the identification of students with special needs.
- Exhibits knowledge and ability to assist in preparation of career college plans.
- Has prior teaching experience preferred.
- Has basic operational knowledge of computers.
- Exhibits knowledge and ability to assist in preparation of career/college plans.
- In addition to t he above criteria, the applicant will be evaluated on her/his ability to respond to practical situations related to the specific requirements of the posted position.
FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of all students. Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis. Strive to implement by instruction and action the Board's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Assists in the maintenance of accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, Board policy, and administrative regulation. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy. Counsels with disciplinary cases to effect behavioral change. Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral programs of all assigned students. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others. Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning. Aids students to understand themselves in relation to the world in which they live, both in school and outside. Helps students understand their test results, their aptitudes, and attitudes. Aids students in planning future educational needs. Plans schedules to meet requirements for graduation, for a career, and career training opportunities or study habits. Provides students with the opportunity to participate in special programs/events which may be available beyond their regularly scheduled classes. Utilizes Internet sources to assist students in areas of special needs such as college selection, career planning, test preparation, etc. Assists in furnishing students college information and vocational materials. This includes college catalogs, vocational pamphlets, and people from the community who do the type of work they are considering. Aids students in furnishing and filling out application forms, scholarships, and financial aid forms. Assists students with their personal adjustment problems. Conducts one's self in a positive professional manner at all times to enhance good public relations, loyalty, good ethics and cooperation with all personnel. Suggests recommendations that aid teachers in dealing with academic and behavior problems. Coordinates case conferences involving principal, teacher, psychologist, and other concerned resource personnel. Keeps the superintendent or appropriate supervisor informed on issues, needs, and current status is one's area of responsibility. Respects confidential information and rights of privacy. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Maintains high professional ethics. Maintains appropriate line-staff relationships fulfilling the responsibilities of one's position. Interprets, executes and supports the policies and administrative regulations of the Board of Education. Accepts advice, suggestions, and criticism in a constructive manner. Maintains such records, reports, or inventories as may be required. Fulfills continuing education and in-service requirements provided by the county to enhance professional growth as required by state mandates. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the superintendent or immediate supervisor may from time to time assign.Revised:
