Job Description

Position Summary The School Guidance Counselor provides advice and helpful resources to students regarding certain personal and academic situations. Their main duties include offering counseling to students or Teachers, conducting group counseling sessions to help students develop their personal and academic skills and providing career advice and guidance to high school students. Key Responsibilities Oversee and fulfill a guidance program designed to allow students to voice concerns without fear of punishment or judgement. Analyze student performance in class and identify sources of problems. Get to know students and their unique needs to offer specialized solutions. Help students develop a plan for their academic career that corresponds with their skills and interests. Host crisis intervention and prevention programs. Facilitate communication between parents, teachers, administrators and students about behavior and academic problems. Assist with school programs and events. Conducting individual and group counseling sessions to advise and assist students with academic and vocation development. Evaluating students' attributes and assisting them in realizing their objectives. Developing and implementing counseling strategies with contemporary methods of mentoring. Identifying behavioral problems and acting appropriately to remedy the situation. Paying attention to societal and cultural differences in all student matters. Assessing the development of students and highlighting their sense of accomplishment. Completing evaluations, analyzing results and providing purposeful feedback. Cooperating with parents, academic staff, and external partners. Arranging and scheduling orientation programs and internships. Advertising facilities and study programs to potential students. Implementing and facilitating educational and training workshops for academic staff. Qualifications Master's Degree in counseling or related studies Valid teaching license Classroom teaching experience is preferred Ability to adhere to Sturgeon's core values of effort, attitude, respect, teamwork, character, and toughness. Preferred Skills and Attributes 2 years of work experience as a counselor in an academic environment is preferred Experience with student schedules, assessments, and curriculum Ability to navigate educational technology and google platforms
