Position Summary Information
Responsibilities Provide comprehensive academic advisement and support to assigned students within a designated college at Delta State University.
Assist students with appropriate course selection and understanding academic program requirements.
Identify resources to assist students with success in their chosen program of study.
Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, other advisors and campus personnel to facilitate fully coordinated services for incoming students.
Teach a 3-hour First Year Seminar class each semester.
Develop and implement registration activities.
Review transcripts for students changing majors or transferring.
Provide ongoing communication and support to both new and returning advisees to ensure their academic and personal success.
Provide data and reports on academic advising and student success indicators.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications A minimum of a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, student affairs, or a related field is typically required. A master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
Candidates should have experience working with students, providing support, guidance, and information about academic programs and university policies. Experience in identifying student needs, conducting early interventions, and connecting students with appropriate resources and support systems. Thorough understanding of academic programs, degree requirements, and university policies and procedures.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Additionally, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
