The Epiphany School of Charlotte Established in 2008, the Epiphany School of Charlotte is a non-profit, independent private day school for children in grades 3 through 8 with ASD-1 or other social communication learning differences and with average to above-average intelligence. Faculty and staff at Epiphany School create a positive, nurturing, highly collaborative multi-grade learning environment and: Engage with students in small groups (typically, a 6:1 student-teacher ratio); Integrate our specialized Friends and Feelings™ SEL curriculum; Excite for students a greater interest in learning; Inspire in students a greater confidence in their own abilities; Instruct and support students' social emotional skill development so they can experience social and academic success and self-confidence now, into high school school and beyond. Position Summary We are seeking a passionate, mission-driven and experienced School Counselor to develop and implement our counseling program to assist our students' social emotional and academic development and wellbeing. The Director of SEL's primary role is to aid students who are experiencing social emotional difficulties in the classroom on a day-to-day basis, create support programs for students to address individual needs, and document student progress. This support program includes but is not limited to providing individual one-to-one counseling, group therapy, family support/training, classroom guidance, and teacher support/training using evidenced-based proactive prevention plans and intervention models and incorporating the main tenets of The Epiphany School's Friends and Feelings SEL program. The Director of SEL will conduct student social emotional assessments, individualized program planning, plan implementation, student progress monitoring, intervention effectiveness analysis, and adjust prevention and intervention plans accordingly.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Obligations to Learners Deliver on Epiphany's core promise of helping students attain the social emotional skills critical to individual well being and success. Model, teach, practice and reinforce for all faculty, staff and students the tenets of Epiphany's Friends and Feelings™ curriculum. Assure the health and safety of every student in Epiphany's care. Effectively lead and implement school-wide, evidenced-based SEL programming Create an environment that infuses SEL into every part of students' educational experience and promotes equitable outcomes. Along with the Friends and Feelings™ teacher, prepare students and their families for successful transition from Epiphany School to their next learning environment by being a knowledgeable advocate for next educational steps (may include touring new schools with current students). Strengthen The Epiphany School and the community's knowledge about effective social-emotional teaching practices by staying abreast of special-education research and leading the school's research partnerships. Serve students as a role model of positive self-management and constructive decision-making.
Essential Functions include:
Provide daily in-the-moment counseling intervention with students in need of additional co-regulation support to help students effectively manage emotions, reset, recover, and rejoin their class. Facilitate proactive Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) Sessions among students, teachers, and family to promote healthy conflict resolution and strengthen relationships. Conduct assessments of students' individual social emotional cognitive skills strengths and weaknesses/target skills using multiple data sources (e.g. parents' reports, teachers' reports, educational psychological evaluations, IEP's, 504's, student self-report, rating scales, direct observation, etc.). Assessments are conducted at regular intervals during the school year for measuring baseline skill functioning, ongoing skill development progress monitoring, and intervention and program effectiveness. Develop individualized social-emotional and behavioral goals for students requiring targeted support, in collaboration with teachers, families, and relevant service providers. Monitor student progress toward identified goals through ongoing data collection and documentation, adjusting supports as needed to promote student growth and success. Ensure students' individualized plans are implemented throughout the school day, monitor ongoing teacher intervention and delivery effectiveness, student progress, and adjust student plans accordingly. Provide teacher support and intervention delivery coaching/training, when needed. Communicate often and constructively with parents/families so they can understand their student's progress towards goals and how they can effectively facilitate their student's skill practice and growth at home. Implement the Friends and Feelings™ curriculum through daily classroom instruction to at least one class each instructional day. Provide teacher training to promote student, family and school wellbeing, enhance Friends and Feelings SEL student-school-family program integration & effectiveness. Oversee and support the development of classroom environments grounded in the Friends and Feelings™ framework, ensuring consistent implementation of social-emotional learning best practices, including calming corners and other supports that foster student regulation and readiness to learn. Prepare students and their families for successful transition from Epiphany School to their next learning or work environment by being a knowledgeable advocate for next educational steps (may include touring new schools with current students). Participate as a member of the school's admissions team, including prospective family interviews, review of student applications, and school tours, as necessary. Plan field trips to support the SEL program, at least once each month. Provide ongoing support to the Head of School and other staff members, as needed. Pay:
$60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
