Program Coodinator/Counselor Posting Details Posting Summary Position Number 6086-0000-0002-151 Classification Title Counselor Working Title Program Coodinator/Counselor Division Academic Affairs Department/Unit Office of Special Programs Section Office of Special Programs (section) Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The primary purpose of Student Support Services is to provide academic support services to low income, first generation college students and individuals with disabilities.

This position is fully funded by the federal Student Support Services (SSS) grant under Title IV of the Higher Education Act. Continued employment is contingent upon continued federal funding and program compliance. Description of Work The Program Coordinator/Counselor is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of federally mandated Student Support Services (SSS) program components. The position ensures delivery of comprehensive academic, career, financial literacy, and personal counseling services to eligible low-income, first-generation college students and students with disabilities in accordance with 34 CFR Part 646 and the Higher Education Act, Title IV TRIO Programs . The Coordinator/Counselor directly supports program objectives related to:
  • Increasing persistence and retention (78% target)
  • Improving good academic standing rates (57% target)
  • Supporting six-year graduation outcomes (34% target)
  • Strengthening financial and economic literacy as required under §646.
4 The position ensures accurate documentation, data integrity, and compliance with EDGAR and Uniform Grant Guidance requirements. Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position The position requires knowledge of TRIO Student Support Services regulations and a strong understanding of federal grant compliance requirements, including 2 CFR Part 200 and EDGAR Part 75. The incumbent must be able to interpret institutional academic policies and degree requirements accurately and apply them effectively in advising and program planning. Strong documentation and data management skillsare essential, along with the ability to maintain confidential records in compliance with federal standards. The position also requires effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to use data strategically to inform student interventions, monitor outcomes, and support continuous program improvement. Minimum Training and Experience Master's degree in guidance and counseling or related field. License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation Management Preferences A Master's degree in Student Personnel Services or Higher Education Administration is preferred. Preference will be given to candidate with demonstrated experience working with low-income, first-generation college students and/or students with disabilities. Experience in academic advising, counseling, retention programming, or TRIO and other educational opportunity programs is also strongly preferred.
