Description of WorkIf you are looking for a rewarding career in education, consider applying for the School Counselor role at the Youth School at NC Correctional Institution for Women. This position serves as a primary contact supporting student success by fostering academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth for students working toward a high school equivalency diploma. Because the role requires flexibility and commitment, candidates with strong counseling and instructional skills and a solid work ethic will be most successful.

This position is located within the academic school at NC Correctional Institution for Women, Raleigh, NC (Wake County).Reporting to the School Principal, the School Counselor is a core member of the education team responsible for implementing and monitoring the schools vision, mission, values, and goals. The counselor must be able to organize and deliver counseling, support, transition services, and related educational programs to groups of student offenders of all ages, creating a flexible program and learning environment that supports each students abilities and personal growth within a female correctional facility. The counselor will also perform any additional duties assigned by the principal.

Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Developing and maintaining a comprehensive and effective data-driven school counseling program with interventions based on NC state standards Providing individual and group counseling and classroom guidance addressing students personal, educational, and social challenges. Collaborating with teachers and other staff to integrate guidance and counseling activities in the school curriculum Helping interpret standardized test results, formative and summative assessment results, and other student data accurately and effectively. Correctional Institution for WomenLocated in Raleigh, NC (Wake County), the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women is the state's primary correctional facility for women. It houses the largest offender population in the state and serves as the support facility for the state's other female prisons. The campus-style facility sits on 30 acres of a 190-acre tract of state land and houses up to 1,700 offenders of all custody (minimum/ medium/ close) levels. In addition to providing the primary medical, mental, and alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for female offenders, NCCIW offers a wide variety of programs, including educational and vocational programs, as well as a variety of job assignments; this facility is home to one of the prison system's four schools for younger offenders.
