Job Description
Envision Science Academy, a K-8 Public Charter School located in Wake Forest, NC, is actively seeking enthusiastic and committed educators who thrive in an environment that values empowerment and offers a flexible, teacher-led curriculum. We are seeking a School Counselor to focus on lower grades (K-4). The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive counseling program, including individual, small group, and whole group counseling, within a school that focuses on Project Based Learning (PBL) and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) framework. The school counselor plays a key role in supporting social, emotional, and behavioral growth. Below is a breakdown of the responsibilities grouped into three categories based on how often and how directly they relate to core work. Primary Counseling Responsibilities
- These are the core parts of the counselor's job that happen regularly and are central to student support. Whole Group Guidance
- Lead classroom lessons to help students learn important skills like managing emotions, solving problems, building friendships, and making good choices. Small Group Skills Work
- Meet with small groups of students who have similar needs—like handling stress, getting along with peers, or building confidence—so they can grow together in a supportive setting. One-on-One Counseling
- Talk with individual students who need some extra help working through challenges, managing behavior, or processing emotions. When needed, help connect families with outside support. Secondary Counseling Responsibilities
- These responsibilities happen regularly or as needed and support the school's broader systems for behavior and wellness. Crisis Response and Intervention
- Step in when there's an urgent situation with a student—like a safety concern, a personal crisis, or a big emotional reaction—and help manage the moment while also planning next steps. Communication will be necessary to decide who is the best person to step in for each unique child and situation. Restorative Facilitation
- Help students reflect on choices, repair relationships, and make things right through conversations, mediations, and structured reflection time. Tier II Behavior Collaboration
- Provide targeted support to students who need a little help learning how to manage their behavior, emotions, or relationships in school. This may or may not coincide with small group skills work. Track behavior data for students receiving support, and use that info to make plans, set goals, and check on progress Staff Consultation and Support
- Be available to talk with teachers and staff when they need ideas, strategies, or just a listening ear about student behavior or mental health. Family Outreach and Support
- Work with families to better understand what students need, share helpful strategies, and connect them with school or community resources. Leadership Responsibilities
- These are the areas where you are the coordinator or co-coordinator of programs that require leadership across the K-4 grade band. Schoolwide PBIS Co-coordinator
- Help lead Positive Behavior efforts across the school, including teaching expectations and managing reward systems. Schoolwide SEL Co-coordinator
- Establish the school's social-emotional learning programs and ensure they are running smoothly.
