Role Description This is a full-time, on-site School Counselor role based in Waynesville, NC. The School Counselor supports students' academic, social, emotional, and career development through individual and small-group counseling, as well as classroom guidance lessons. Daily responsibilities include meeting with students to address personal or academic concerns, collaborating with teachers and administrators to develop interventions, and communicating with families about student progress and support strategies. The counselor also assists with crisis response, provides referrals to community resources, and helps coordinate school-wide programs that promote mental health, positive behavior, and a safe, inclusive climate. Additional tasks may include contributing to student support teams, maintaining accurate records, and participating in professional development. Qualifications Demonstrated skills in Student Counseling and general Counseling to support academic, social, and emotional needs. Experience or training in Career Counseling to guide students in exploring educational and career pathways. Strong foundation in Psychology and Mental Health to inform evidence-based support and interventions. Relevant state certification or licensure as a school counselor (or eligibility to obtain), and a master's degree in school counseling or a closely related field. Ability to build respectful, confidential, and trusting relationships with students, families, and staff. Effective communication, documentation, and collaboration skills in a school setting. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices when working with diverse student populations.
