School Counselor -
Probationary Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, to provide students, parents, administrators, and other teaching staff with information on career and or educational opportunities; administer and interpret career assessment tools; provide social-emotional support, and assist students in developing educational and occupational goals and plans.
Compensation/Pay Range:
$44,500 (negotiable based on experience)

Full-time Part-time 10-month (works student calendar) 12-month Paid hours/day: 7 hour 40 minute day including a duty free lunch of 35 minutes
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
Demonstrates awareness for the diversity of the student population in the delivery of the instructional program and counseling services. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping. Aware of the limitations of confidentiality as it relates to student's safety, ethical and legal implications. Counselor works to promote equity and access for every student. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with students, parent(s)/guardian(s), as well as with community stakeholders. Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with guidance services. Serves as ready resource to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. Advises parents of their rights and responsibilities and demonstrates knowledge of community resources available to student and families. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to integrate Social-emotional learning as well as Culturally Responsive teaching practices. Design programs and develops materials and instructional strategies, teaching counseling units that meet the ever-changing needs of students as well as established building goals. In collaboration with parent(s) or guardian(s), help students establish goals, and develop and use planning skills. Demonstrates accurate and appropriate interpretation of assessment data. Demonstrates knowledge of school based/computer-based technology platforms. Ability to effectively implement an effective referral process with administrators, teachers and outside agencies. Demonstrates willingness to be a life-long learner, participating in professional development to enhance knowledge and skills.
Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment:
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements:
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding counseling, education and students. Knowledge of the limits of confidentiality Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted during work. Ability to work in and be a to a diverse learning and work environment
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile:
Certification/License:
New York State Certification as a School Counselor. Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education:
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Master's Degree preferred.
Experience:
Successful prior experience for the appropriate assignment preferred.
