Overview:
Columbus Preparatory Academy is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Middle School Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will hold a valid Ohio School Counselor license, demonstrate a commitment to supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development, and foster a positive and inclusive school environment. This position is part of a collaborative counseling team, with a primary focus on supporting middle school students in grades 6-8.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individual and small group counseling to middle school students (grades 6-8). Support students' academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development. Assist students with goal setting, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success. Monitor student progress and assist in implementing intervention strategies as needed. Support attendance initiatives and promote positive school engagement. Assist with crisis intervention and student support plans. Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with school and state guidelines. Participate in school-wide initiatives, including PBIS, testing readiness (Blitz), and student recognition programs. Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture. Participate in professional development opportunities and stay current with counseling best practices. Comply with all school policies, state regulations, and licensing requirements.

Requirements:
5 year, K-12 pupil services license completed a masters program in school counseling Successful completion of OAE School Counselor exam. Successful completion of a BCI/FBI background check. Experience working with middle school students preferred. Strong understanding of student development, social-emotional learning, and counseling best practices. Ability to support diverse student needs through culturally responsive and student-centered approaches. Experience using data to inform student support and intervention strategies. Strong collaboration skills and ability to work as part of a team. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all situations.
