Supervisor:
Building Principal/Special Programs Director
Objective:
Facilitates the instruction of all student including students with special needs and disabilities by the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education Individualized Education Plans.
Note:
The below lists are not ranked in order of importance Essential Functions Ensure the safety of students Maintain a demonstrated philosophy that all students can and will learn Prepare and maintain the classroom as student-centered, age-appropriate learning space Plan, implement, and evaluate daily learning activities based Participate in the development and/or implementation of individual education plans Organized appropriate subject content and learning goals aligned with the state standards and individual education plan goals and objectives while assisting students to achieve learning objectives Develop and implement behavior management plans that meet student needs Communicate professional and regularly with parents and support agencies in an effort to involve them in the educational process (e.g., phone calls, emails, written notes, meetings, educational software, etc.) Produce, manage, and complete the necessary documentation and paperwork for charting educational progress Assist in coordinating all support services to meet student needs Adhere to the rules and regulations that relate to IDEA and/or other state/federal programs as applicable Provide direction and training to paraprofessionals, aides and teaching assistants in the classroom setting Facilitate opportunities for students to participate in inclusion settings, implementing prescribed medical plans and/or behavior plans when necessary Perform other specific duties as assigned Other Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the selection of educational materials Promote good public relations Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner Serve as a role model for students Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships Participate in committees, study teams, and co-curricular activities as agreed upon Participate in intervention assistance team meetings Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues Supervise student teachers Counsel, advise, encourage, and motivate students Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university Appropriate state of Ohio certifications/license Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology Ability to work effectively with others Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing Effective, active listening skills Organizational and problem-solving skills Training in varied instructional design Knowledge of child development and an understanding of age appropriate tasks Knowledge about the necessary procedures to keep students safe, secure and healthy both physically and social / emotionally Background/knowledge base in methodology and supervised practice Ability to work in a team environment Computer/word processing skills Equipment Operated Any and all pertinent equipment to the foregoing job description and the ability to learn all new and upcoming technology Additional Working Conditions Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue Occasional interaction with unruly students Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoop Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds Complies with all Louisville Board of Education policies and procedures This job description is subject to change and in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the incumbent.
