Exempt Position Overview:
The Upper School Counselor supports the emotional, social, and psychological well-being of students in grades 9-12. Working within a student-centered community, the counselor provides individual and group support, collaborates with faculty and families, and promotes a culture of wellness that helps students thrive academically and personally. The counselor serves as a trusted, visible, and accessible resource for students and faculty while maintaining the highest standards of professional ethics, confidentiality, and legal responsibility.Key Responsibilities:
Provide short-term counseling and emotional support to students experiencing academic, social, or personal challenges and ensure strong social-emotional development. Work cooperatively with the Director of the Upper School, the Dean of Students, and the Upper School Learning Specialist to coordinate the school's counseling needs as part of the Student Support Team. Collaborate with Class Deans, faculty, and families to provide support for students in need. Serve as a visible and approachable presence within the Upper School community. Coordinate with outside mental health providers and provide referrals to community resources and mental health professionals when longer-term support is needed. Participate in crisis response and provide follow-up support to students and the school community as needed in collaboration with school leadership, families, and outside providers. Adhere to all applicable laws, ethical standards, and school policies related to student safety, confidentiality, and record keeping; fulfill mandatory reporting responsibilities. Maintain timely and accurate records of student interactions and communications with families and outside providers.Qualifications:
LPC, LPCC, LISW OR
Master's/ Doctoral degree in Psychology, School Psychology, School Counseling, or related field. At least five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with adolescents, ideally in a school setting, and a strong understanding of adolescent development, mental health, and best practices in counseling.
