High School Counselor Position Category Student Support Services Position Type High School Counselor Posting Start Date 4/27/2026 Posting End Date 5/29/2026 Position Start Date 8/6/2026 School District Purcell Public Schools City, State Purcell , OK United States Description Purcell High School is seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and organized High School Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a student-centered advocate committed to supporting our students' academic, career, and social-emotional development. At PHS, we pride ourselves on fostering a culture of Dragon Pride where every student is prepared for success beyond graduation.
Key Responsibilities Academic Advising:
Assist students with course selection, graduation requirements, and personalized education plans.
College & Career Readiness:
Guide post-secondary options, including college applications, scholarships, FAFSA completion, and vocational training.
Social-Emotional Support:
Offer individual and small-group counseling to address personal, social, or mental health concerns impacting student success.
Crisis Intervention:
Respond to immediate student needs and collaborate with external agencies when necessary.
Testing Coordination:
Assist in the administration and interpretation of state assessments (ACT, Pre-ACT, etc.).
Collaboration:
Act as a liaison between students, parents, teachers, and administration to ensure a holistic support system.
Skills:
Strong communication, time-management, and proficiency with student information systems (e.g., Wengage/Sylogist).
Attributes:
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and a genuine passion for working with teenagers.
Required Qualifications Certification:
Valid Oklahoma School Counselor Certificate (Secondary).
Education:
Master's Degree in School Counseling or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications Skills:
Strong communication, time-management, and proficiency with student information systems (e.g., Infinite Campus).
