DESCRIPTION
BENEFITS QUESTIONS Job Summary Counsels students regarding their personal, educational and career goals. Responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of specific services. Essential Duties Provides each new student with individualized developmental guidance and information through the student intake process; assesses each new student's need, does initial student intake interview, decides on the appropriate assessment tools, assigns and explains the assessment process and instruments, and interpret assessment results with the student and provides appropriate resources for student support. Provides primary academic advising, including: personal education plans, plan of study, early TRIO enrollment, change of major, course withdrawal counseling, degree audits, removing academic holds, and filing students for graduation. Counsels with students who request assistance with their personal, educational and career development needs; provides academic advisement services, including educational planning and computerized degree evaluations. Provides advisement, support services and special assistance to students with disabilities in a supportive role of accommodations provided by Accessibility Resources. Plans, develops and conducts workshops, seminars and events designed to meet the developmental needs of students in the areas of leadership, study skills, note taking strategies, career exploration/guidance, financial aid resources, time management, stress management, resume preparation, interviewing skills, learning styles, and other academic success skills. Coordinates promotional/marketing activities, including creation of marketing materials. Provide transfer counseling, university and major selection guidance, articulation agreements, application fee waivers and campus visits. Provides career counseling, planning services utilizing computerized career guidance systems, branding, use of social media, determining the best major for careers, interview skills, resume development, coordinating a mentoring program, estimating expected local and national salary trends and providing expected job employment outlook expectations. Assists students with the federal student aid process, FAFSA completion, scholarship searches and services to improve financial and economic literacy. Promotes student retention through various counseling services, educational activities, cultural events and programs. Performs other duties related to the position as required or directed. Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree in Higher Education, College Student Development, Counseling, Psychology, Human Relations, Social Work or a related field. One year experience in the assessment, academic advisement, and career development of college students required. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with others, including traditional and non­traditional students. Ability to work in a collegiate academic counseling setting serving all students. Ability to identify special students needs and to develop appropriate services. Ability to facilitate various workshops college-wide and in the community. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual, Academic Advising experience, TRIO Program experience.
