TITLE:
Secondary School Guidance Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS
At least three years of successful teaching experience. A valid certificate as a guidance counselor. Master's degree. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO
Principal
JOB GOALS
To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Aids students in course and subject selection and assigns students to classes. Orients students to school procedures and varied opportunities for learning. Maintains student records as appropriate. Works to resolve students' educational handicaps. Works to discover and develop special abilities of students. Works to prevent students from dropping out of school. Provides student information to colleges and potential employers according to provisions of the Board's policy on student records. Make recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships. Guides students in their participation in school and community activities. Helps students evaluate career interests and choices. Administers the testing program as assigned. Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment. Confers with parents whenever necessary. Interprets the guidance program to the community. Provides in-service training in guidance for teaches and student teachers. Assists administrators and faculty on the matters of student discipline. Assists in the orientation of new faculty members. Performs such other duties as may be assigned. Page 1 of 2 TERMS
OF EMPLOYMENT
Ten-month basis. Salary to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
