POSITION TITLE
Guidance Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in education or psychology, preferred. Master's degree in school counseling, preferred PA Elementary and /or Secondary School Guidance Counselor Certificate , required. Three (3) or more years of teaching and/or counseling experience preferred. Ability to coordinate and utilize services of the entire professional staff. Ability to utilize the service of specialists outside the school setting. Demonstrate proficiency with student management and school systems and Microsoft Office program. Able to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports. Able to collaborate with colleagues and other staff members. Ability to apply computer software packages such as Microsoft Office and student management systems required.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE
This position provides direct and indirect services to students in the areas of academic, career, and personal-social development. Counselors should aide students in becoming better equipped to make suitable choices and enable them to establish and maintain a well-adjusted life style.
PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Implement and manage the district's current comprehensive school counseling plan. Provide professional one-to-one counseling and group counseling. Participate in orientations and open houses. Implement the school counseling curriculum. Assist in scheduling students in appropriate classes based on specific needs and their individual planning goals. Help students accept special resource people (including referral) to help meet their particular needs (Speech and Hearing Therapists, Psychologist, etc.). Plan, administer and interpret standardized tests and inventories. Collect, maintain and disseminate student records. Facilitate higher educational and occupational planning. Coordinate homework assignments for homebound instruction for pupils on extended absences. Maintain a professional environment of respect and a positive rapport with families, students, staff, and community. Help maintain a positive school climate. Provide communication to the teachers on current guidance activities and pertinent professional materials. Provide case conferences involving resource personnel and/or parents with the staff. Assist in the development and/or revision of education programming to better meet the needs of students. Interpret records to help staff understand the needs of pupils. Conduct parent seminars (orientation, financial aid, etc.) to involve the parents and respond to their concerns. Arrange and conduct parent-teacher conferences and parent-counselor conferences Facilitate parental understanding for the need for outside referrals. Provide parents with awareness of and arrangements for any special school resource to help their child's needs (i.e., speech therapist, school psychologists, etc.). All other duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and Building Principal or designee.
